SCHOLARSHIPS
The John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation awards scholarships to local healthcare workers throughout the fiscal year in successive order, while funding lasts. These scholarships support and build our local healthcare workforce, which is vital to rural healthcare.
We are currently accepting applications for the July 2025 to June 2026 fiscal year. Once funds are exhausted, we will close applications until the following year.

The John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation awards scholarships to local high school students near the end of their senior year. The Foundation organizes this with Mariposa County High School's Counseling Office, but graduating seniors from other local schools are also welcome to apply.
The Foundation's mission is to strengthen the rural communities of the John C. Fremont Healthcare District to maximize health through partnership and philanthropy. The education of young people is a key element to strengthening our rural communities.
This scholarship is for students with financial need who are planning to pursue a certification or degree in any medical field related to people (ie, not veterinarian).
Although the Foundation prioritizes applicants who plan to provide health services in Mariposa County, we will also consider students who are attending 4-year colleges with a stated healthcare major or intent to go on to medical school. The Foundation will award up to three $1,000 scholarships this year.
The Foundation will consider funding educational or service projects provided by community-based organizations, Tribes, or County departments that demonstrate a clear need and benefit to the community. Applicants should consider the following elements when generating their applications:
Strong needs statement supported by local data
Sustainability of the project
Total number of individuals served
The use of best practices, or the replication of an existing model
Measurability of the work and ability to connect those data to outcomes
The inclusion of collaborative partners
The inclusion of in-language, disability and culturally responsive activities
The project is within the mission and capacity of the applicant

The JCF Hospital Foundation is continually seeking to support the adequate operation, maintenance, and modernization of Healthcare District facilities, ultimately aiming to enhance patient care and quality outcomes.
The Foundation Board works with the Healthcare District Board of Directors and/or the Healthcare District CEO. They determine priorities on an annual basis and relay them to the Foundation's Giving Committee. For any given fiscal year, the requests from the Healthcare District are consistent with the priorities set. The criteria under which funding requests are reviewed include:
Demonstrating buy-in from relevant staff (such as physician support for a telemedicine program).
Need relative to other hospital needs
Estimate of the number of patients served or potential for patient benefit
Sustainability of the project/maintenance of the equipment long-term
Budget size and cost justification
These grants are only open for application by the John C. Fremont Healthcare District CEO or designee.
